A few days before the Demo DayYoann and Erika sent us an email to participate in Demo Day. As their field of study is innovation, we eventually agreed to let them take part in Demo Day but on one condition… that they give us their opinion! That’s what they did, and we liked it.

Yesterday Erika (my wife) and I ditched our books and went to Le camping to see the Campers pitching their ideas in front of investors and journalists. This was my first tech event and I have to confess, I was pretty excited.

Of course I have seen many videos of pitches, of tech conferences around the world, but you never know how it feels like until you get to attend to one of them.

As far as my opinion goes, it was a great event and here is why: great ideas, a great crowd and a great organization. I was pretty impressed by the ideas of the 10 startups. Some were more striking and stunning than others but the level in general was relatively high.

10 great ideas

Augment could revolutionize the sales man job and add a great feature to the e-commerce industry by providing their incredible augmented reality technology.

Explee could be a great tool for the next generation of entrepreneurs by giving them a platform to present their ideas originally.

ForgetBox gives you the opportunity to own your personal cloud with a solution that makes the set up and maintenance as easy as it could be.

JellyNote could be the Spotify of scores for an incredible amount of musicians.

WebShell can save the most scarce resource of all programmers and developers, which is their time, by offering a solution to aggregate APIs in one place. They won’t have to integrate them separately, which is going to save them hundreds of lines of code.

Poutsch has all the requirements to be the next big social network next to Facebook, Twitter, and Quora. Its way of asking, expressing, and spreading opinions is addictive and way more efficient than what you can currently find on the web.

Sketchfab is breathtaking. It provides a solution to engineers, designers, architects, and every person who has to deal with 3D virtual object, to open and manipulate in real time 3D objects directly in your browser. This is going to improve a lot the workflow of many professionals.

Home’n go is the place to go if you’re looking for a house or a flat. It makes all the process of flat hunting easier and sharable.

Veezio is a quantum leap in the world of search engine for videos, allowing you to search for terms inside the videos and not only in the title or the description.

And last but not least, Fleex is a new way to learn English. Imagine learning english by just watching your favorite American/British TV shows!

We need to spread this atmosphere of innovation

As you can see, France’s got talents! Thanks to the initiative of Le Camping, some of our startups founders are surrounded by brilliant mentors and great logistics that can help them to be propelled.

It is well known that an idea alone is worthless, the search of the next revolutionary idea is a collective effort and in a country where entrepreneurship is not really recognized, we need more initiatives like Le Camping and we need to help them to spread this atmosphere of innovation that promotes change and disruption among some of our archaic industries.

… And to reconcile the world of education and entrepreneurship

From a student point of view, I think that we need to reconcile the world of education and entrepreneurship by creating partnership in between universities, schools, incubators and accelerators like Le Camping to create an ecosystem that encourages students to create their companies.

I might be biased because I am passionate by entrepreneurship and New Technologies but yesterday’s Demo Day was really inspiring for me, and it is a pity that students seem so far away from this world, which has the power to promote change, innovation, and disruption.

It is a pity because we need ideas, we need entrepreneurs, we need disruptive technologies, and we need innovation to jump start our economy. Le Camping is a great institution that brings together great ideas, great mentors, and great minds to yield this creative effervescence. They are a great example of the path that we should take.
