New players of the TV and online video ecosystem
Over the last 50 years in Cannes, MIPTV has been bringing together the entire TV ecosystem, over 11,000 professionals seeking new trends and new TV shows.
Launched in 2012 MIPCube gathers the community of new players transforming the content experience and the video business models at the heart of MIPTV.
Startups, you’re a part of all that!
MIPCube allows them to get in touch with the decision makers in the international video ecosystem, brought together in one place over a few days in Cannes, from the 8th til the 11th of April 2013. Today Marie Raichvarg, Head of Competitions at MIPTV, tells us more about MIPCube Lab … !
Why MIPCube Lab ?
People involved with MIPTV wished to meet companies capable of proposing new solutions for content creation, production, distribution, broadcasting, as well as its monetization.
MIPTV has always been about helping its partners through the mutation of the sector and we select only the most promising startups, allowing them to make themselves known to their future clients and partners.
A demanding selection process
For the 2013 edition, MIPCube Lab has surrounded itself with prestigious VCs in order to select the startups.
Illuminate Ventures (based in San Francisco) and Jaina Capital (based in France) will peruse application from startups from all over the world.
Ten finalists will be invited to MIPCube to pitch at Cannes in front of a select jury of potential partners, financial as much as business: VCs, TV and video executives, successful entrepreneurs…!
And all this in front of the international audience of MIPTV! The jury will then choose the winner after all the pitches. The ten finalists will be coached in Cannes by the team from Microsoft BizSpark, a MIPCube Lab partner.
“We are looking for startups providing new solutions for the video industry!”
We are looking for start-ups providing new solutions for the video industry, to help the ecosystem move forward and come up with new business models, add services, or enhance the content experience.
Our call for entries is targeted at the most exciting and innovative startups in video, connected TV, social TV, monetization, broadcasting, augmented reality, 3D, video monetization, video advertising, players, video apps…
The startups have to be business-ready: the product or service should either already be launched or should be launched during MIPCube 2013 (8-11 April 2013). The startups should also have a potential to drive revenues globally since MIPTV and MIPCube gather a worldwide audience.
Some success stories ?
TweekTv was one of our MIPCube finalists in 2012. Since taking part in MIPCube Lab, they have signed on with the BBC, whom they met with during MIPTV in Cannes.
Two French startups from the 2011 edition have also since made a name for themselves. Stupeflix has gone worldwide, which shows the highly international character of MIPTV: 22% of their clients are based in the United States while only 2% are French. MediaBong raised 1 million euros last April.
The feedback from startups that have taken part have been quite positive, as well as that from the industry.
Our commitment is to help innovation along by offering a platform and unique visibility opportunities on an international scale. As one of our finalists recently said “While you’re at MIPCube Lab, you feel like the spotlight of the whole industry is on you“.
